Nicole Asel, mezzo-soprano, is known for her expressive depth, versatility, and commitment to meaningful musical connection. Equally at home in opera, oratorio, and recital, she brings a thoughtful and collaborative spirit to every performance. Nicole currently serves as Associate Professor of Voice at Colorado State University, where she teaches Voice and Vocal Pedagogy and works closely with emerging artists and educators.

A passionate advocate for new American opera and art song, Nicole has premiered and promoted works by many of today’s leading composers, including Mark Adamo, Kirke Mechem, Robert Livingston Aldridge, Hershel Garfein, Daniel Kellogg, and Robert Spillman. Her recording of Aldridge’s Love Songs with pianist Robert Spillman is available on all streaming platforms under the Centaur label.

Recent appearances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the CSU Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Fort Collins Symphony, Händel’s Messiah with Pro Musica Chamber Ensemble and the Larimer Chorale, Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été with the Sam Houston State University Symphony Orchestra, and Songs for Lulu by Rufus Wainwright in Vancouver, BC.

In collaboration with Machmer Media and Madeline Harvey, she has produced and starred in a new film project with Art Song Colorado titled The Baby Book Project, featuring Lauren Spavelko’s powerful song cycle Baby Book, which explores the raw emotional landscape of early motherhood.
